Shoulder dislocation

In the case of shoulder dislocation, the joint head slips forwards or, more rarely, backwards out of the glenoid cavity. This is usually caused by an accident, e.g. during sport, but sometimes also by ligaments in the shoulder joint that are too loose. The shoulder can either be relocated by the patient themselves or by a doctor, after which an X-ray and MRI is always necessary to rule out any damage to the shoulder. Stabilizing physiotherapeutic treatment is necessary to prevent a new dislocation.

If the anterior labrum is torn during the dislocation, it must be fixed in an arthroscopic surgery to restore stable shoulder function.

If recurrent dislocations of the shoulder occur despite conservative therapy, surgical stabilization should be considered, as the frequent dislocations can cause bone abrasion of the glenoid cavity. This is compensated for with a custom-made bone block so that the joint head can no longer slip out of the socket (J-bone graft technique). I will be happy to provide detailed information about this surgical method in a detailed consultation in my medical practice.
