Herniated disc

Herniated discs occur when the soft core of an intervertebral disc leaves the outer ring of the disc through a tear and presses on the surrounding nerves. This pressure on the nerves can lead to pain, numbness or weakness in the areas of the body affected by these nerves.

Treatment of herniated discs can often be conservative. Conservative measures include rest, pain medication, targeted corticosteroid injections, physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles and improve posture. A one-week inpatient stay, which includes all of the above measures and, if necessary, CT and X-ray targeted infiltrations, can be very beneficial.
